The transformation of y = af(x) has the effect of stretching or squeezing the function f(x) in the y axis. It is a vertical dilation, crunch, or stretch. For a >1, the graph is stretched. For a<1, it is squeezed. To draw it, one would multiply the entire function f(x) algebraically by the factor a.
