If you don't have a calculator the way I would suggest is to first write what I call a percentage sum. A percentage sum uses the common percentages (ones that are easy to calculate) - 100%, 50%, 10%, 1% - to make up the percentage required. So in this case 27% = 2 x 10% + 7 x 1%. The next step is to work out what 10% and 1% of 17 are. To find 10% we divide by 10 because 10% is equal to 1/10. 17 divided by 10 is 1.7. To find 1% we divide by 100 because 1% is 1/100. 17 divided by 100 is 0.17. Then we use these results in our percentage sum. Here 27% of 17 = 2 x 1.7 + 7 x 0.17. Use whatever multiplication method you prefer to find that 2 x 1.7 = 3.4 and 7 x 0.17 = 1.19. Then add these together to get 4.59.
so you would do 27 divide by 100 then times that number by 17 so it would be 4.59
1) Split 27% into (2)10% and (7) 1%
2) Work out 10% of £17 which is £1.70
2) Multiply £1.70 by 2 (the answer is £3.40)
3) Work out 1% of £17 which is £0.17
4) Multiply £0.17 by 7 (the answer is £1.19
5) Add £3.40 and £1.19
6) The final answer is £4.59
27 percent *17 =
(27:100)*17 =
(27*17):100 =
459:100 = 4.59
Hi there,
To find 27% of £17 first find 25% by dividing by 4.
£17/4 = £4.25
Then find 1% by dividing by 100
1% of £17 = £0.17
times this by 2 to get 2%
2% of £17 = 0.17 x 2 = £0.34
Then add this together:
25% = £4.25
2% = £0.34
= £4.59
Remember if you're working out a 27% discount you would need to take away 27% from £17.

This question looks like a calculator question and the easiest hack to find any percentage of anything on a calculator is to locate the % button, on my calculator its found by pressing 'shift' then 'ans' , yours may be different but it will be in yellow above one of the buttons meaning you will need to press shift before it.
In maths whenever you see the word 'of' you need to multiply.
So 27% of 17 means 27% x 17
using my calculator i would type :
27 'shift' 'ans' x 17 =
then my answer would be 4.59

First step would be to find 10% of £17
====> 10%= £17/10
= £1.7
In order to find 20% of £17, we must multiply £1.7 by 2, this is equal to £3.4
20% of £17 = £1.7 X 2
= £3.4
Next step is to find 1% of £17, this is equal to £0.17, in order to find 7% of £17, we multiply £0.17 by 7
7% = £1.19
Therefore 27% of £17 is equal to £1.19 added to £3.4 ===> 27%= £1.19 + £3.4
= £4.59
