The Lowest Common Multiple of 2 numbers is the lowest number that both those numbers divide into. Similarly the Lowest Common Multiple of n numbers is the lowest number that all these numbers divide into.

The lowest common multiple (LCM) is the smallest number that is a multiple of both given numbers. It can be found by listing the multiples of each number and identifying the smallest multiple they share.

An example is the LCM of 5 and 8. The Multiples of 5 are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, etc. and the Multiples of 8 are 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, etc.

40 is the first number that appears when the multiples of 5 and 8 are listed.

So therefore, 40 is the LCM or 5 and 8

LCM stands for the lowest common multiple. It is the smallest number that is a multiple of all the numbers given in the question. It can be used in adding or subtracting fractions to find a common denominator. It can be worked out in multiple ways but the simplest is to just to write out a list of the multiples of each number starting with the bigger number. Then compare to find the LCM.

Example: Find the LCM of 4 and 6

Multiples of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, ...

Multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, ...

Lowest common multiple: 12

The LCM (or Lowest Common Multiple) is the smallest number that is a multiple of two (or more) numbers. We can find this by listing out the multiples of each number. For example, to find the LCM of 4 and 6, we will list the multiples of 4 and the multiples of 6. So we have 4,8,12,16,20,... and 6,12,18,... We can see that the smallest number that is a multiple of both is 12, so 12 is the LCM in this case!

LCM means lowest common multiple. It's the smallest number that 2 or more numbers can divide into exactly, without leaving a remainder. For example the LCM of 2 and 3 is 6

LCM stands for Lowest Common Multiple. It’s the smallest number that is a multiple of two or more numbers. For example, if we take 4 and 6, their multiples are:

  • 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, ...
  • 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, ...

The first number they both share is 12, so the LCM of 4 and 6 is 12.

The Least Common Multiple is when you are given two numbers, is the number which is the smallest multiple which is common to them both. For example, given the numbers 5 and 6. the multiples which are common to them both are 30, 60, 90 and more. So the LCM would be 30.

LCM stands for Lowest Common Multiple. We can find out what it means from the name! It's the lowest common multiple of some other numbers, which means it's the smallest number for which we can say every number we are given is a factor of it.

For example the LCM of 8 and 12 is 24 because 24 is the smallest number such that 8 is a factor of 24 and 12 is a factor of 24. Numbers like 48 and 96 are also common multiples of 8 and 12, but 24 is the lowest such common multiple.

The lowest common multiple (LCM) of two or more numbers is the smallest number that they can fit into exactly. This number will be divisible by both numbers:

e.g. LCM of 3 and 2 is 6

LCM of 3, 2 and 4 is 12

because 12 is the smallest number that 2, 3 and 4 can all fit into exactly.

LCM stands for Lowest Common Multiple.

It means the smallest number that is a multiple of two or more numbers.

A multiple is just what you get when you multiply a number by 1, 2, 3, and so on.

Example: Find the LCM of 3 and 4

Step 1: Write the first few multiples of each number.

  • Multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, ...
  • Multiples of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, ...

Step 2: Look for the first number that is in both lists.

  • The first number that appears in both lists is 12.

So, the LCM of 3 and 4 is 12.
