Least Common Multiple is the full form. It means a least number which can be divisible by two or more numbers from the given numbers.

For example:- if the given numbers are 7, 8,10. And the question asked to find the LCM.

Here, 8 and 10 both are divisible by 2, which is a least number.

8÷2 = 4

10÷2 = 5

7 can not be divisible by 2. But, we won't take this factor into consideration.

So, the least numbers we get are 4,5,7 and 2 itself.

As LCM means least number multiple. Then, we will multiple 4, 5, 7 and 2.

4×5×7×2 = 280.

So, the LCM of the given numbers 7,8,10 are

LCM means the lowest common multiple of two or more given numbers.

For example, the LCM of 2 and 5 is 10.

Multiples of 2 are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and so on. Multiples of 5 are 5, 10, 15 and so on. 10 is the least multiple common to both 2 and 5.

The least common multiple is defined as the smallest multiple that two numbers have in common

It means "lowest/least common multiple". It is a term used to find the number which will be the lowest possible number that is a multiple of 2 other numbers. More clearly for example, let's try to fins the LCM of 4 and 6. For this, we need to imagine the lowest possible number that is divisible by both 6 and 4. We can say the answer is 12 in this example. 12/6=2 and 12/4=3 and there is no lower number that is a multiple of both 6 and 4.

LCM stands for Lowest Common Multiple. So questions would involve writing out the multiples of 2 different numbers and recording what the smallest common multiple is.

The least common multiple is also known as LCM (or) the lowest common multiple in math. Let us take two numbers, 2 and 5. Each will have its own set of multiples.

  • Multiples of 2 are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, …
  • Multiples of 5 are 5, 10, 15, 20, …

Thus, the common multiples of 2 and 5 are 10, 20, ….. The smallest number among 10, 20, … is 10. So the least common multiple of 2 and 5 is 10. It can be written as LCM (2, 5) = 10.

The Least, or Lowest Common Multiple, is the smallest number, given two or more inputs, that will divide by all the inputs (separately); A method to find it is

  • List the multiples of each number until at least one of the multiples appears on all lists
  • Find the smallest number that is on all of the lists
  • This number is the LCM

For example, 6,7,21;

6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48

7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 56

21, 42, 63

= 42

LCM is the smallest number which is divisible by the given numbers.

Suppose we are finding the LCM of 2 & 3, then 6 will be the LCM of 2 & 3 as 6 is the smallest number which is divisible by both the numbers.

LCM or Lowest Common Multiple of a set of numbers is the least number that is exactly divisible by the given set of numbers. Eg: to find LCM of 3,5:

writing down the first few multiples of 3: 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,....

writing down the first few multiples of 5: 5,10,15,20,25,.....

From the list, it is evident that the first common multiple popping u is 15. Therefore the LCM for 3 & 5 is 15.

The Least Common Multiple ( LCM ) is also referred to as the Lowest Common Multiple ( LCM ) and Least Common Divisor ( LCD) . For two integers a and b, denoted LCM(a,b), the LCM is the smallest positive integer that is evenly divisible by both a and b. For example, LCM(2,3) = 6

The smallest positive number that is a multiple of two or more numbers.

For example the LCM of 3 and 5 is 15.

Multiples of 3: 3,6,9,12,15,18....

Multiples of 5: 5,10,15,20,25...

So here you can see that the lowest number in common is 15.
